Purpose
In 2022, the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) at the National Institutes of Health formed the Stillbirth Working Group of Council (WG), a subgroup of the NICHD’s National Advisory Child Health and Human Development (NACHHD) Council, in response to a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) request to lead a congressionally mandated task force to examine stillbirth in the United States. The working group released its final report to HHS, Working to Address the Tragedy of Stillbirth on March 15, 2023. NICHD will continue to lead this congressionally mandated task force examining stillbirth to identify:
- Current knowledge on stillbirth and prevention,
- Areas of improvement for data collection,
- Current resources for families impacted by stillbirth, and
- Next steps to gather data and lower the rate of stillbirth in the United States.
The working group will hold it’s next meeting in January to discuss these issues.
